Start to Finish Story Pole Installation Proposals Include:

1. All required materials.

2. Maintenance for an agreed upon amount of time at no additional charge.

3. Removal and clean-up, at the conclusion, and/or the appeal period expires of your project.

4. Proposal from a California Licensed Surveyor, if required for certification or other necessity.

Story poles, Temporary Frame Structures are placed to demonstrate a three dimensional, full-scale, silhouette structure that outline the height, location, bulk, and mass of a proposed structure(s) that will occupy on a site for onsite view assessment, visual impact of structure from various vantage points, and to document the impacts of a proposed structure(s).

They are required for certain design review applications and may be requested for any discretionary review warranted by visual impact or location issues.

Story poles allow City and County Planning staff, neighbors, and others to assess the location and general massing of a proposed building from various vantage points.

Bright orange construction mesh, Pennant Flags (or similar, high-visibility material) is strung along the top of the Story poles to easily delineate the proposed height, location, bulk, and mass. Marking(s) as required at certain heights per the City and/or County.

All installations will be done with complete and accurate definition(s) and markings, as defined by the City, County or other governing agency requirements along with the requirements for viewing purposes for both the Client and Homeowners Associations.

What are Story Poles?

Story poles are used to depict the elevations and silhouette of a proposed structure or an addition to an existing building. They are intended to aid neighbors, staff personnel, and members of the decision-making bodies in their evaluation of a project application.

Story poles are placed to demonstrate height, bulk and location of a proposed project that may potentially impact public and/or private views. The placement of story poles are required for all Coastal Development Permits and for certain discretionary requests associated with Administrative Plan Review applications.

During review of certain discretionary projects, story poles are installed to demonstrate the height and location of proposed development. Review of the story poles ensures that permitted development is sited and designed to protect public views to and along the ocean and scenic coastal areas consistent with the City's Coastal Program and to protect private primary views.
